Project 3: Space: Sensorial Experience - Sensory Space

Our Work

In project 3, we were required to revisit our tectonic structure (Project 2) and expand it into a sensory realm that anticipates and accommodates the demands and emotions of users. We had to use our knowledge of design elements and concepts (from Projects 1 and 2) to discover a prominent theme and develop the structure to produce a poetic architectural depiction.

01

Design Intention

To create a space that is inspired by my current emotions in order to express my frustration entrapped in exoskeletal structure and achieve calmness ultimately through meditation.

02

Design Process and Development

I did precedent studies on how different elements of spaces can affect one's emotions such as lightings, shadows, height of ceiling etc.

Conceptual Design

Exoskeleton structure with elevated and depressed planes and different degress of enclosure

Sketch Model

Before coming to a final design, I've made a few sketch models to grasp the spatial volume and visual proportion of the overall design. Thus, this is my final sketch model design which I proceeded with for my final model.

Reflection

In this assignment, I've learnt to develop my concept to generate sensory experiences using a combination of elements, principles, and tectonics. Moreover, I've also learnt to consider the dynamics of movement and human ergonomics in relation to the sensory spaces.
