Project 2
Designing with Architectural Principles and Materiality
In this assignment, we were required to design an introspective folly which reflects the meanings of architectural principles and comprises of meaningful form and spaces. We had to apply design principles from the previous assignment and explore the concept of ambiguity in this folly. Our group consisted of 3 members, namely Shi Pei, Adler Kwan and I.
Design Intention
01
Initial Discussion & Design Analysis
Initially, we explored the meaning of metaphysics in architecture and expanded our concept from Peter Zumthor's saying in response to our context which goes "to enhance what seems valuable, to correct what is disturbing, and to create anew what we feel is missing" .
To create a folly that acts as a solution to break loose from a typical confined isolation space by bringing the outside inside, by luring, capturing and extracting the elements of nature.
02
Drafting
We produced a few preliminary drafts and had a couple of discussions to decide the forms and the materiality of the folly.
03
Model Making
Draft models are made to simulate the sensorial experience of being in the folly itself and to explore the overall form of it before making any amendments.
04
Finalization
We produced the diagrams, orthographic drawings, perspective drawings and models to be compiled into presentation boards and slides.

Reflection
In short, I have learnt to apply architectural design principles in my design and further expanded my understanding towards the design process and approaches towards crafting a meaningful and interesting space. I've also embraced the importance of teamwork and communication throughout this assignment and am glad to have an amazing team to complete the creation of the folly.
