Orthographic Drawings of
Mini Chalet
In this assignment, we are required to design a chalet on the lake proposed by Taylor’s Hostel Management. We were introduced to the comprehensive procedures of construction drawings production which initiates from site observation via google maps. We had to capture all the site information on drawings and later incorporate the design of the mini chalet into a series of construction drawings. The tasks of this assignment consists of producing a plan, 2 external elevations, 2 sections and a site plan of the mini chalet.
Progress
I started off by choosing a floor plan shape and separating the floorplan into different spaces such as the dining area, kitchen, living room, bedroom and so on. After that, I chose suitable furniture from the Ikea catalogue and started drafting out my floor plan.
I started drafting the roof plan and decided to choose a hip roof due to its details and nice form. After that, I drew my elevations according to the roof plan. However I missed out the background in the first draft of my elevations and decided to redraw them. After that, I drew my site plan.
Last but not least, I drew my sections and tried to include as many details as possible
I finalised my drawings by making sure that the measurements in all of the drawings tally and the details are all included.
Outcome
Reflection
After making sure that my drawings are finalised, I started inking them accordingly. I also compiled the furnitures into a document which will be attached behind the drawings. I submitted the assignment once I was done with it.
Through this assignment , I get to explore different kinds of furniture in each type of space and their sizes in the IKEA catalogue. Moreover, I have learnt to be resourceful and carry out independent learning rather than merely relying on my tutor for information. In my opinion, the most difficult part of this assignment is figuring out how the roof will be portrayed in each drawing and the details of the roof as well. However, I am glad that this assignment has benefited me in terms of designing a space that is practical and applying proper drawing conventions into my construction drawings.
