Introduction

to

Technical

Drawings

In this assignment, we are required to produce a plan, 3 elevations and 1 section for an item that we have selected which cannot be larger than the size of an A4 paper. This assignment aims to nurture our observation skills and attention to the details of an item such as the curves, hard edges, dents and more.

Progress

During the first week, we were assigned to look around the house and choose an object that met these requirements :

  1. Shall be smaller than A4 paper size. Suggested size to be around 15cm´15cm´15cm.

  2. Only symmetrical in ONE direction.

  3. Should be of reasonable challenging level such that there are sufficient details to be captured.

Followed by, we had to show our lecturer a video of our object to be approved for the next stage, which is execution of technical drawing.

Once my item was approved, I started measuring every single part of the gaming console to ensure that I captured all of the details. I also took some pictures at different elevation views before drafting to ensure that my drawings look consistent.

Followed by, I started drawing the item and noticed that the curves were pretty hard to capture by free hand. Therefore, I used a french curve to solve the issue. After that, I included the dimensions and title block in all of my drawings.

After getting feedback from Ms Ann and learning from others’ mistakes, I improvised my drawings and ensured that the drawings turned out neat and tallied with one another.

Outcome

Reflection

In short, I have developed my observation skills and learnt to pay more attention to details when it comes to construction drawings
