Designer’s Journey: Elements of Design
In this assignment , we were required to capture the natural and man made elements in our surroundings in 15 photographs which had to be then converted into black and white coloured images. The purpose of this assignment is to document, discern and narrate the natural and man-made forms observed and photographed from our surroundings as an integrated form of discovery in our visual research study. We were expected to produce an accordion booklet which consists of 10 selected photographs alongside our own sketches and written interpretation of the elements .

I looked around my house and also went to a park nearby to capture a couple of photographs which comprises natural and man made elements. Capturing the best shots of the items that I have chosen definitely wasn’t an easy job as I don’t take photographs very often.

Firstly, I made the accordion folds with cartridge paper. Followed by, I printed the pictures and started drafting my narratives and exploration documentation of the natural and manmade elements in a notebook. Besides, I also did some research on pinterest to seek for captivating ways to compose my entries.

I pasted the pictures into my accordion booklet and transferred my sketches into the following page. Lastly, I inked the sketches and wrote detailed narratives of my discovered elements.

Reflection
Through this assignment, I’ve learnt to capture photographs with compelling compositions by applying the knowledge of design elements and design principles. Moreover, I have also realized the importance of proper time management to ensure that the quality of outcome produced is consistent and not rushed.
